DOWN ON THE FARM
Appalachian Heritage ~ Cherokee Heritage

Welcome!  I'm a mother of three, grandmother of two.

Amateur Radio operator since 1976.
Started playing guitar in 1945;  actually, the photo below taken 1940 something, so I guess I started about age 5.

I like living in the "slow lane", taking time to see and enjoy the beauty which surrounds us. It's there...just stop and look; you can't miss it.

I remember those boots, but not the uke. Photographer most likely was my aunt Rethie.

The hairdo is a "Rethie" special... curled with rags. I do remember THOSE specials!

My paternal Cherokee grandmother.  On right, her 88th birthday.

From about 1942 to 1954, I stayed every summer in this house with Rethie and in my junior year, 1953, I went to high school there, in Rupert.
Right:  Rethie and I 1955.

The farm house, forties and fifties.  My uncle Jimmie James took the black and white picture.  He "posed" me in the flowers.   :D

Bottom left is the yard at the house pictured above.  Another place I liked to visit was my Great Grandmother's farm  in  Doddridge County.
